I can't stand the word miscarriage, it somehow makes it sound like the woman wasn't carrying the child right and so it left. But worse then miscarriage is "lost the baby" - Lost? It's not lost, it died, it's gone. A person asked me this morning when a friend of mine "lost their baby" - they had a misccariage at 7weeks a days ago I was appauled. Firstly because why would you ask that -the question was "What day did ....... lose her baby" secondly what has it got to do with you - what bu...
So yesterday afternoon Nick is sitting at work when he realised it was 5'oclock and not 4pm and said Oh I have to go - you want me to pick crap up on the way home don't you. And I who was already in a bad mood at that point got mad and said No, I wanted you to pick up cereal so our daughter could have breakfast. And when he said okay I'm leaving and I said Fine I think he knew he was in trouble. So about 45minutes later the doorbell rings, it's Nick standing there wirh a bunch of flowers and...
Yesterday was Valentines Day. The night before (Sunday) I ironed Nick's shirt and pants so I wouldn't have to rush in the morning. Nick let me sleep in a little, then he got the baby up and I started breakfast for the 3 of us while he made coffee. I put on a cd of our songs and he slow danced with me in the kitchen while waiting for the kettle to boil. I gave Nick his present - the Life of Brian on dvd, made him some pasta for lunch and sent him off to work. Elana spent most of the day pl...
We just had a bad wake up, I was just about to get off the phone and have a nap taking advantage of Elana's sleep status when I heard her crying. When I went in she was lying on her tummy with her legs through the bars and and bottom right up against the bars. I picked her up and she was still asleep whimpering -- bad dream. We went into the bathroom to wet her hair and wash her face because it's really hot today and we sang twinkle twinkle, and itsy bitsy spider a few times still whimpe...
My little girl has shoes. We bought them today. She walks like a pro in them. My little girl has walking shoes, she has shoes she can walk in as opposed to shoes that people by for their babies just because they look cute. These shoes have a practical purpose. My little girl has little size 3 pink sandals with pink flowers. They're very light with almost no sole and those raised bumps on the bottom like they have on slippers. And best of all they cost $5. We tried on a couple of pairs...
Last night as I was going to sleep after I finished watching the West Wing, I got the theme song in my head and for some reason it reminded me of the Babar theme song. Which led me to think about Babar's name. Babar - he's the only one in his family with not a "real name" Queen Celeste, brother-in-law Arthur, Daughters Flora and Isabelle, Sons Pom and Alexander. Advisors Cornelius and Pompadour. Then there's Zephir and Rataxes, and Rataxes advisor Basil. Definition of Babar - [n]...
Elana was making this weird grinding sound with her teeth today which i found really weird because she only has 4 teeth, 2 in the front at the top and 2 in the front at the bottom. Then later today she was throwing a tantrum because I wouldn't let her have my glasses and she opened her mouth really wide as she screamed and burst into tears and I got a shock as a caught a glimpse of white Nick felt her mouth and she has teeth in the middle on the side on the bottom, then I was giving her ...
Elana is hitting the terrible twos 10months early. My toddler this week newsletter tells me that all the behaviour she exhibits is perfectly normal and I shouldn't be concerned, but dammit it's frustrating!! Apparently it's normal for her to be a fussy eater, to refuse foods that she gobbled up with relish the day before - but it's annoying. Apparently it's normal for her to refuse to eat more then 3 mouthfuls when she used to eat the whole bowl with relatively no problems. Elana has...
Looking around the forums in the last couple of weeks I'm surprised at what I haven't seen, especially in the Politics or Current events categories. Yesterday was Australia day, the day Australians celebrate the landing of the first fleet. This morning I woke up to hear that insurgents fired at Australian troops, but didn't injure any and in a separate incident there was a suicide car bombing near the Australian embassy injuring six soldiers. This on top of the Australian embassy in...
Elana can match. As I've said in many previous blogs and comments Elana has a thing for the W's (not the awesome Christian band, but the letter magnets on our fridge) We gave her a second packet of letters for Christmas and so she has 2 of every letter. (except I took the letters that spelt her name E-L-A-N-A and put them on the fridge just above the point where she can reach) But now as well as the 2 W's (which are both blue) she has now started carrying around other letters both Q's which...

The coin toss signaled the start of what is sure to be a remarkable game. Some bright sparks had the idea to have a charity cricket match to raise money for the survivors of the tsunami tragedy. 24 cricket players from around the world have devoted their time and skills to this cause. 12 players from "Asia" - Pakistan, India, Bangledesh and Sri Lanka have joined 5 Australians, 3 New Zealanders, 3 West Indians and 1 English cricketer in a game that's unprecedented. The teams Rest of ...
For the last 2 or 3 months Elana has been slowly working her way up to walking -- she'd take 1 or 2 steps and decide that was enough. She'd confidently walk if you held one of her hands and she'd run if you held both of her hands. But she found that crawling got her where she wanted to be faster and so she just didn't bother much with walking, In the last month she'd been taking more and more steps more often - 5 or 6 at a time - she once took 10 but again it was all too slow for her and i...
Last night was an absolutly disgustingly hot night. I was sitting on the couch watching CSI - trying to figure out if I'd seen it already and Nick was watching Anime on his computer. He must have gotten up and gone away and I didn't notice because he called to me to "Close Your Eyes" I did so, reluctantly, because I'm an eternal pessimest and I was thinking the worst - mouse, cockeroach *shrugs* Then he turns CSI off - I'm even more confused but he takes my hand and pulls me off the couch...
So Elana SCREAMS out crying uncontrollably this morning and Nick goes in to her. I wake up and look at the clock. It's 4:44am. I get up to see what's going on - nick chamges her nappy and she sobs a bit laughs a bit smiles when she sees me. Nick gives her to me saying I'm going to get up (the tv is in our bedroom so he had to get it and carry it to the lounge) and she cries and holds her arms out for him. He goes to the bedroom I take her out into the lounge where she sees her toys and sta...
