Whew, Chrsitmas is over for another year and we survived. There were no fights, no illness and no injuries (backyard cricket games can be pretty brutal sometimes) The night before Christmas Eve we had Alex and Peter over for dinner - Chicken Enchiladas!!! Christmas Eve I spent cleaning the house, during the day I had unexpected guests. Nick came home early and then two other friends came for dinner - we had ham, pasta salad and fresh bread rolls and we watched the Carols by Candlelight ...

It's amazing the feeling of Christmas I have this year - I'm just really excited. I haven't felt like this since I found out Santa wasn't real - I was 13 Actually after that - It was probably when I was about 16 that Christmas stopped being such a big deal. It was still Christmas but I just didn't care, we were estranged from my mother's family and my dad's mum had passed away so the big traditional family Christmas's were gone. Replaced instead by the usual breakast, then church and a ...

I went shopping with my best friend today which was great and we went to K-mart and Target and all over Indooroopilly ran into my in-laws and had a Boost and a kebab. I went with the sole purpose of trying to find an outfit for Christmas Day (boxing day actually) with the family and a pair of overalls for Elana to wear to her birthday party at the park. And do you think I could find anything? NO! I found some beautiful dresses and pants/top sets in Target, and a gorgeous overall dr...

As Elana's first birthday is fast approaching I got to thinking about how a year isn't such a long time and yet it's an eternity at the same time. At precisely this time last year - 3:35pm I was in my mum's backyard attending my own baby shower. It was a Saturday and it started at 2 and went until about 4 or 5. Lots of my friends and their mothers were there, I got lots of presents and played a few games like guess how fat trina is! - I still have the ribbon with everones initials. I c...

About two months ago I had an unspoken falling out with someone who is so close to me we're like "sisters" and instead of apologising for what I did I dug my heels in stayed up on my high-horse and professed that they couldn't take a joke. And worse I fooled myself into thinking that losing this friendship was no big deal and that I'd always wondered what it would take for us to not be friends. But planning Elana's first birthday party last night made me rethink about how stupid I ...

For the first time in months Nick made biscotti yesterday. We gave Elana some crumbs before it was cooked the second time and she wasn't overly impressed. So this morning I got some out of the cupboard for myself and I gave her a rusk, she came over to me seconds later and I picked her up and she picked up my piece of biscotti and put it straight into her mouth. Now usually food must be turned around, held and examined for a few minutes (5-10) before it goes near the mouth but the biscotti we...

See what'd I tell you - Australia won by an innings and 156 runs. Warne 4 wickets for 15 runs McGrath 3/19 Kasprowicz 1/21 Gillespie 2/19 Australia doesn't even get to bat again - it's all over on day 4 and the telecasting is due to start in Qld in 15 minutes -- but it's ALL over wonder what they'll put on instead

Day 4 of the first test between New Zealand and Australia. First Innings NZ were all out for 353, Australia were all out for 585 and now NZ trails by 162 - after 32 overs they've got 70 runs and 7 wickets - they have 3 wickets remaining and the telecasting doesn't start here in QLD until 2:30 - another 48minutes from now. I'm keeping up with it from Livescores -- I can't believe I'm mising this game it's amazing and soon it will be all over. I don't think NZ will make the target let alon...

The boys came round last night and Nick made lasagne - it was a Jamie Oliver recipe from his new book Jamie's Dinners (there's some REALLY!!!!! good stuff in it) He minced up some chuck steak and some pork, it had pancetta, cinnamon, carrots, thyme and rosemary, tomatoes, red wine - he simmered it for an hour and a half and in the last 45minutes he roasted some butternut pumpkin rubbed with olive oil, corianda seeds and chilli flakes. The white sauce was made from pouring cream and parme...

On the same night of the 2nd last Friends ever, a brand new Simpsons episode and the Series Final of Sex & the City, Elana Grace cut her first tooth. She wasn't really anymore grumpy then usual, she actually ate all of her dinner (which was cause for celebration since last week she decided she didn't need to eat dinner - at all - very stressful) and because she opted not to nap yesterday afternoon she was exhausted by 6pm and I put her in bed at 6:20pm - 10minutes before her daddy came h...

After what seems like weeks of blockage and nothing to write about - Not even blogs about Elana - I seem to be on a role this morning and I can't seem to be able to stop saying every thought that comes into my head. And I still haven't written about my bad day. Or my irrational fears or the Chinese food I ate last night So bare with me as I continue to spill what seems to be verbal diarrhoea of my thoughts - My brain is spilling out but it's not articluating correctly the way I think ...

Okay so everyweek I get this Your Baby This Week newsletter from some American website (because Australia is stupid and doesn't provide such a service for parents) This week Your 11-Month-Old This Week Hello, Trina! Has your baby formed a strong attachment to a stuffed toy or a soft blanket? If he has, be thankful. Such transitional objects or "loveys" will help give him a feeling of security as he evolves emotionally in the months to come. When you're not around, it will comfort him...

Sequels/sequals - neither looks right and I'm having a bad spelling day - hey I'm having a bad day but I might blog about that later now that I've remembered again Okay I've figured out what annoys me about parts 2-? in movies It seems obvious and I've probably figured it out before but they use the same jokes. Champas Socialist (a very interesting Australian blogger I read regularly) has a thread going called Abort the Gays in which one of his readers quoted a movie line from Waynes Worl...

I was in bed last night just about to go to sleep when my mind was still running a few hundred miles and hour so I just kept talking to a basically asleep Nick - I find that if I use up all my words and say everything that's in my head I can sleep better. I found myself talking about the people on JU which the same passion I reserve for my favourite television shows - usually my bedtime rambling involves my outrage on what happened on Australian Idol, my saddness at having to say goodbye...

It rained most of this weekend. Friday Elana and my mum and I went Christmas shopping which was expensive and fun and Elana is the only one who's got any presents so far - her first birthday is two weeks before Christmas so yeah... We're about to leave the shopping centre when we notice it's bucketing down rain so I call Nick who looks up bom.gov.au and finds that in 10minutes time there will be a gap in the rain which should be enough time to get home. 10 minutes after we got home it starte...
