It's amazing the feeling of Christmas I have this year - I'm just really excited. I haven't felt like this since I found out Santa wasn't real - I was 13

Actually after that - It was probably when I was about 16 that Christmas stopped being such a big deal. It was still Christmas but I just didn't care, we were estranged from my mother's family and my dad's mum had passed away so the big traditional family Christmas's were gone.
Replaced instead by the usual breakast, then church and a small lunch with maybe my dad's brothers.

New traditions started though - our next door neighbours pool party, opening a gift on Christmas eve while drinking a glass of maison.

Then our neighbour moved and we grew up and again the build up to Christmas just wasn't so exciting.

Then in 2002/2003 I got together with Nick - my Christmas day began as normal went to church etc and that afternoon Nick came to lunch at My Aunts and the next morning his sister picked us up and we went to his grandmothers for their traditional christmas lunch.

Last year 2003/2004 was really exciting, it was the first year as a married couple trying to meld our two traditions as well as coping with a newborn baby. I Loved!! christmas shopping in November - I bought a tree and heaps of decorations and spent lots of money on gifts for Nick and the unborn baby buoght daddy a toy race car. We went Christmas shopping the very night before Elana was born.

Christmas eve Nick's best friend came over to have dinner with us - Nick made curry and we watched the Carols by Candlelight - Elana slept curled up in Beavs arms, then she went to bed and they went outside for a drink and a christmas cigar.
Christmas day we went to Nick's parents prettty early about 8am I think it was - after we opened our gifts to each other. Nick's grandmother, aunts uncles and cousins arrived about 1pm and we had the lunch and presents etc - pass the baby our then very little, very quiet, very sleepy 2 week old Elana
And then boxing day we had at our house, my parents and sister came for lunch and stayed till the evening because we didn't want to take Elana out two days in a row,

This year Beavs will come over again for dinner (not curry please!) drinks, cigars and carols by candlelight but Elana will probably be in bed asleep before he gets here this year.
Santa will come while we're all sleeping and no doubt Elana and Nick will be the first up and will have to wake mummy, This year my family is coming about 10:30 for brunch at our house, and later we'll go to Nick's parents house for dinner just with his immediate family.
Boxing day we'll go to his parents house for the big extended family lunch thing
This year Elana won't be quiet, she probably won't be passed around rather she'll crawl/walk to everyone - she'll probably shy away from the aunts and uncles preferring her grandparents nicks siblings and us - but she won't be quiet, she's not little, and I'll lay odds she won't be asleep -- our big clodhopping 1year old Elana

We put our tree up last night - it's down on the landing so the baby can't attack it so far it's pretty void of gifts - we only have one persons completed gift.
We're buying a bbq on the weekend and we're having a family portrait I have no idea what anyone's going to wear.

12 sleeps till Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found once I started working retail during the holidays, it just sucked the Xmas spirit right out of me. I saw people acting like jerks over silly ornaments and cards.

However, once I stopped working retail regularly, I've found that I enjoy Xmas a lot more. Also, it doesn't seem to arrive as quickly nor does it feel like it's shoved down my throat, either. I want to see the pretty Xmas lights and actually hear some music.

we're going on a Christmas lights tour on thursday night - myself 2 friends and my friends oldest son (21/2) - we get on a bus and go down all the streets with houses that have entered the competition. So that will be cool I've never done that before but my dad used to take us out every year to go looking for lights

The lights are one thing I absolutely love this time of year!  I often take my kids on light finding adventures so we can "Oooh and aaah over the lights".  It is actually "looking" like Christmas here in MI.  We got snow this weekend so the kids got to go out and have snowball fights and make snow angels.  They didn't even get dressed first!  They just put there snow gear on right over their night clothes and went right out.  Kids are what it is all about!
