Cate Blanchett was robbed in 1999

There was a news break a few minutes ago just before Oprah started talking about Cate Blanchett's Oscar win. About Time!!!

We'll get the telecast of the Oscars tonight at 8:30pm but for those who care - she won. It's not a vindication for the other times she was nominated and missed out - especially when she was beat out in 1999 by Gweneth Paltrow.
I could never understand how Her performance of being a girl, pretending to be a boy pretending to be a girl - in a basically Romantic Comedy/Drama could win out of a completely brilliant dramatic performance of a real life Monarch - Elizabeth 1 - it was fabulous
Just don't get it.

But I'm glad she won. Not just because I'm a patriotic Aussie and I like when Australian actors are recognised - but because I'm a Katherine Hepburn fan, I think she did a wonderful portrait, I have never seen a bad Cate Blanchett performance -- correction Thank God he Met Lizzy - was a bad movie so... anyway I'm glad she won.

Morgan Freeman got the gong over Jamie Foxx - which was what I predicted and I'm still predictiong Foxx for best actor and Hilary Swank for best Actress.

Arh predictiong *sigh*

I'd like that woman who played Vera Drake to win - she won the BAFTA , Annette Benning losing to Swank again would probably suck but I think it will happen.

I think Foxx will win out over Leo but I don't care either way - and I think if Don Cheadle won it wouldn't be a bad thing either. "It's an honour just to be nominated"

Wow - Oscars.com Foxx and Swank

I couldn't make a prediction for Best Movie - I really just don't know - I have about 5 minutes to get one in before they announce it I reckon. But I still really don't know.

I'm glad Cate Blanchett finally won. She's just amazing in everything she's in. When I watched the Oscars the year Gwyneth Paltrow won, I was thinking, "wait, Judi Dench plays Queen Elizabeth I for five minute and receives an Oscar. Blanchett plays her for an entire movie and doesn't get anything!"

Yay Hilary Swank won! I really liked Million Dollar Baby and happy to see it win so many awards. The Aviator, I liked...but Million Dollar Baby really cut to the core. I sat in theater and was choked up after the first hour. I really felt for the characters whereas in the Aviator, I really couldn't.

Jamie Foxx. Ugh. In between music and movies, he's going to be so overexposed after this.

I know it was really hard not to think rascism (cause cates not a yank )- but you can't begrudge Dame Judy her oscar because she's fantastic in everything she's in too. She and Maggie Smith = wonderful.

Me too. HATED it!!

I first saw in in English or some other class that was held in my english room - may have been maths - either way I wasn't pay attention - it was a stupid movie.

I LOVED Elizabeth - even the gory bits - I'm sure I would have loved it no matter who was in it because it was a good movie but Cate's performance was outstanding. I just don't get how she lost.

Something I'd forgotten though was the other actors Gweneth beat that year - Meryl Streep (One True Thing) and Emily Watson (Hilary & Jackie) and Fernanda Montenegro - who I have no idea who is (Central do Brasil)
Meryl Streep?!??? *sigh* it gets worse
