I read that post by Dharma which made me cry and I went to the link and it broke my heart - especially that letter. Anyway I was talking on MSN to a friend of mine I've blanked out her name for anonymity but that conversation just made me so mad!!! I just felt she was being so apathetic because she's got a house a husband and child (as do I)

**** says:
hey
trina says:
http://www.gardenofangels.org go here - it broke my heart
**** says:
k
**** says:
u all set for tonight?
trina says:
well kinda
**** says:
kinda?
trina says:
well nicks picking up sausages and bread rolls and tomato sauce on his way home tonight and my house is vaguely clean - apart from you know toys and stuff all over the floor
trina says:
and the tv works which is a good thing
**** says:
hehe cool
**** says:
that is a pretty sad (as in upsetting) website
**** says:
how could someone do that? gee
trina says:
i know!!! but isnt she great - i wonder if theres anything like that here
**** says:
yeah i don't know - seems very american!
trina says:
it shouldnt be
**** says:
yeah i know
trina says:
it should be everywhere
**** says:
yeah
**** says:
it doesn't happen so much here though
trina says:
problem is a lot of aussies suffer from Nimby
**** says:
if people don't want their baby, they have an abortion
**** says:
what is nimby?
trina says:
not in my backyard
**** says:
no
**** says:
it's ok - you have a beautiful baby that you want and love! she will never be rejected
trina says:
that's the point ****
trina says:
thats nimby
trina says:
as long as it's not happening to me its okay
**** says:
no it's not ok, but there isn't a whole lot we can do about it
trina says:
i have a baby who i love so i dont have to worry about the baby found in the dumpster
trina says:
why?
**** says:
ok well what is your plan then
trina says:
that lady in america didnt think that - look at all she did
**** says:
i guess, but i don't know that happens a lot here!
trina says:
i don't know - i don't think i'm strong enough to make a plan - but i'm just saying - we all should care
**** says:
people don't throw away their babies here
**** says:
yes of course
trina says:
it does - even if it's only happened once in 5 years its happened- and what did she do with the body?
**** says:
buried it
**** says:
what i'm trying to say is that once in 5 years isn't much of a market to start a company up for
**** says:
i'm not trying to be mean, but it just doesn't happen so much here
**** says:
and if/when it does, those people get found and in heaps of trouble
trina says:
not a company ***
trina says:
i dont want to make money
**** says:
oh i know
**** says:
but it's not much of an organisation if there is only 1 baby in 5 years
**** says:
it wouldn't be taken seriously here
**** says:
that's what i mean by it's very american
**** says:
'cause there are such sickos there
**** says:
and a lot of people there are totally unrealistic - they throw their babies away!
trina says:
they just didnt have other options
**** says:
we have a welfare system here - people want to keep their babies so they get more money
**** says:
exactly, which is why that organisation is good in america
trina says:
i didnt say there WAS a need for it - i was just interested in if we had one and if there was a need - i know ive heard reports but i'm never sure of the details after i hear about babies
**** says:
hehe ok, you are right it would be interesting to see if there was one here

Okay so I did some research and she's pretty right - baby dumping doesnt happen an awful lot here - it's child abuse that occurs here babies that already have names and are supposedly "wanted" because as **** said if women don't want their babies they have an abortion which I thought was a crock but didn't have the statistics to back it up - I can't count the amount of girls I went to school with who have at least 1 if not more children - beginning with the girl in grade 9 who dropped out to have a baby and has since had 3 others. I also know of a few who did have an abortion.

Plus as **** said we have welfare here - girls have babies just to get money - it is true - i know some - and its sad and some of these girls genuinely love their babies

I'm just flawed at the apathy -- and I'm not sure the word I'm looking for but **** told me that there wasn't a "market" for that type of "business" it wouldn't be well received - no what was the phrase? "it wouldn't be taken seriously"
Patch Addams wasn't taken seriously either, neither were some of the greatest heroes/heroines of our time - I'm sure people looked at Debi Faris whne she first started up and thought she was nuts - I'm sure she had alot of doors closed on her by people suffering from NIMBY.

I don't know what I'm writing this for except because it was too long to put in Dharma's comment box and I felt so strongly about it

I have a house, husband, 3 kids, and and a fledging career...and it still breaks my heart and makes me mad that this is happening. I see her point, but Garden of Angels is a charitable organization rather than a business, so it doesn't really matter (to me, anyway) how many babies they take care of...they're there to take care of them when no-one else wanted them.  Writing that last sentence about made me sick, btw.  That no-one would give a shit about a tiny, innocent, helpless infant and just throw it in the garbage to die...it affects me almost beyond anything else I've ever dealt with.

Even if I only had to take care of one infant in 10 years, I would still think it worth the effort.

Really good article Trina ... the problem is so many people are nimby.

Thanks be that it isn't happening much in Aus.

Still breaks your heart though.

one thing -- you actually said her name in one bit near the end (i knew who it was anyway but i know you wanted to keep her anonymous)

ow.... there's so much i want to say but i don't want to rag my friend. stuff like that -- well both things, one, the site itself and the reason an organisation like that has to exist, and two, the fact that people can be so apathetic -- just makes me want to cry.
