not so happy

OKay - I spent the afternoon reading on the couch while Nick alternated between making biscotti in the kitchen and watching Japenese Anaemi (sp) on his laptop - I had just been handed the baby who'd just woken up from her nap (because the buzzer on the oven went off again) and I was just about to stand up and put the kettle on when there was a knock at the door - we didn't lock it again after Nick's family left so before I'd got up from the couch my sister was in the hallway saying it's just us.
So anyway they get in and I hug my mum and say happy mother's day (as you do) and she's practically crying and I thought it was because of this morning I asked her how the cemetry was and she almost cried and I handed her Elana - (my Nanna passed away on December 7 2002 and Elana was born December 6 2003) So I'm in the kitchen making her a cup of tea while Nick is making dad and himself a capuccino and she asks me to - oh wait - first I give her the card from us & Elana and a photo of Elana we had taken at Portrait Place (a 5"10" photo is $40) and I asked what she got for Mothers Day and she said a photo and I said well i know what we gave you but what else did you get and she said that's what I got. And then I went to make tea.

She asked if we could take Elana into the garden so we went for a walk and she proceded to tell me all about her day and how she must be the worst mother in the world.
When we were kids we used to make mum breakfast in bed - even when we had church we'd get up earlier - but I think since I've moved out doey sleeps in - and mum goes to church by herself. She came home for 10:30 which meant she would have to have left half way through the sermon and her brother was still asleep, and doey was watching tv and the dishes were in the sink and dad was on the computer and noone said happy mothers day and then she and my uncle went to my nanna's gravesite and came back and my sister had tidied up a bit but she still didn't say happy mothers day and mum still didn't get a present - she asked my dad if he was going to say happy mothers day and he said my mothers dead (which isn't a new thing - he says it every year but I usually pull him up on it) (Grandma passed away in May 1997)

So this brings us to our house - and the conversation - we get back upstairs and my sister's lying on the couch because she stayed up until midnight talking to somone on the phone or something - that was the arguement and then something was mentioned about presents again and doey had to practically be dragged off the couch to go to the car to get mums present - it was sooo bad
Then my sister decided to spend the rest of the afternoon locked in the car - but don't get me started on THAT!!
My parents were here until about quarter to 6 - 2hours and my sister spent a good hour and a half in the car - she was just coming to the door as we were walking out - I don't know if she was giving in or what she said absolutely nothing to Nick or I as she turned and got back into the car
*sigh* arh family gatherings

Meanwhile Nick's making my favourite dinner (chicken, white wine and cream linguine) MMMM it smells so good!!!!
