Ramblings of an Aussie Stay @ Home Mummy
It's going to one of those days

Today is a very grumpy day! It's completely miserable weather all grey and threatening to rain any minute and today I'm feeling as bad as the weather. Last night my parents, 16 year old sister and her boyfriend and my mum's brother who's staying with them came over for dinner - and while it wasn't a very late night - they left around 9:30pm - it took alot out of me. We woke Elana up after they left and she happily drank about 150mls of her bottle and she was put back to bed - it took about 10 minutes for her to settle down and drift back to sleep. We went to bed and about 11:30pm or so she woke up - we didn't get up - but I don't know what time she stopped playing with her toes and babbling to herself. Nick's alarm woke all of us up this morning at 6am and she was unusually grumpy. (me I was the same amount of grumpiness I hate being woken up)
So she had some of her bottle - about 80mls - and went down onto the mat to talk to her fish and practice her wiggling - I went to have a shower and I came back a few minutes later and she was facing in the opposite direction. So that was fine - Nick went off to work around 8am and I put Elana in her bed to catch up on all that lost sleep - it took about 15minutes of crying screaming and whimpering to calm her down and then I went to lie of the couch to finish watching "Sunrise" (for those out of aus - it's a morning new program like nbc today or good morning america)
but I fell asleep - which wasn't a bad thing because I woke up with a tummy ache and stuffy nose/ears/head.
Then like 10 minutes later the phone rings - I decide to let it ring out - so it does - and then the person on the other end decides to call back - not happy jan - especially since it woke Elana up and she just wouldn't go back to sleep after that.
So I'm like a bear with a sore head today.
I really don't feel like playing house today - I want to get into bed with a tub of mango icecream, a packet of tim tams and a few really soppy love story chck flicks
Then I want to be free to just turn it all off (phone, tv, radio, doorbell) - fall asleep and know I'll not be disturbed
Yeah I'm grumpy!
and happy babies who just want to play and not eat or not sleep but not on their mat because they want to be held and cant be left alone by grumpy mummies don't help!
Actually it's not as bad as all that. I think I should just wash my face make some toast and coffee and I'll feel a little better. I think the main problem is that it's only 10am I've been awake for four hours and there's still so many hours left in the day. Nick won't be home until after 5pm.
*sigh* It's just going to be one of those days.
Yesterday was good though - Elana had about 150ml's of her 2:30pm bottle - Tegan was here between work & uni and she being the bestest friend in creation brought over McDonalds - which I hadn't had in about 3 months.
We had coffee, some of Nick's fabulous biscotti and a long chat about stuff - It was really great.
Then she left about quarter to 5pm and Nick walked in the door not 10minutes later. Then the really fantastic thing happened - Elana drank all 200ml's of her bottle at 5:30pm which was just so great and she wasn't too grumpy when she went to bed about half an hour later. Then my family came over and that was good - Nick made a fabulous Italian feast (a selection of antipasto) and then after we watched Haish & Andy then Merrick & Rosso - which was the perfect end to a pretty good day.
But today I need a sleep

I really enjoyed reading this article; you have no idea.
While I have no idea who or what Haish & Andy or Merrick & Rosso is, it is great to read about someone's everyday life.
Believe it or not you may well lok back at these times with great affection and nostalgia. I have three sons. I haven't seen them since I split with their mother in 1996. The youngest was only 4 months at the time. This sort of family life, with all it's trials, aggravations, and lack of sleep sounds so wonderful to me.
I have missed all of that so much. Thanks for sharing a little piece of your life with us. It's precious.

I know what mango icecream is, but what are tim tams?
Good to hear she ate well.
I know all about fussy babies who just want to be held...with my middle kid I learnt to do everything one handed because there was always a baby in the other one!

You just made me cry! And I thought my blogs were so boring that noone would read them
Hamish & Andy is a comedy team - it's partly live but they have a few sketches
Merrick & Rosso Unplanned is also comedy - they sit on a couch infront of a live audience and answer questions. There's actually a British show that has the same format. Both shows are chocoblock full of Australian larriken behaviour.
Tim-tams - man you Americans are so deprived. They're choclate biscuits (cookies) filled with choclate cream like an oreo and covered with chocolate - but they're rectangular. I've just described an original tim-tam however you can get them in dark chocolate, chewy caramel, double coated, and the new tia maria flavoured.
The best way to eat a tim-tam is to bite one corner of each side - like on the diagonal and then use it like a straw and suck up a cup of coffee through them.
I'm sure you'll be able to find something similar - every Australian I know who lives in America or American who's been to Oz knows where to get a tim-tam!
Meanwhile we only have the tim-tam's favourite cousin - the sister of the mint slice Arnotts new Kahlua Slice - which just isn't the same. Plus they've been sitting in our freezer since teegstar brought them over.
But I'm feeling heaps better - thanks guys!

You do realise that I wil just HAVE to come around and share the love of the wicked awesome Tim-Tam/coffee combo with you! Maybe over Hamish&Andy/Mezza&Tim comedy one night, if that's not too late? Those shows are a cack!
(I'm moving down real soon as I start work with Jayden on the 10th of May so i'll see you round no doubt
